Metropolitan Lofts
The Metropolitan Building has a significant presence on the corner of Broadway and Fifth. Built in 1913, the Metropolitan has large Chicago-style windows that offer impressive views of the street scenes below. Though the building has undergone a number of interior and storefront alterations, the integrity of the original architectural character has remained intact.
RPA was hired by the owner to transform the historic building into live-work loft apartments on floors three through nine with three penthouse units on the tenth floor. The ground floor will remain a department store with storage in the basement and mezzanine. The historical integrity of the building will be restored where possible, and the ground floor storefront upgraded to reflect a modern aesthetic.

The existing seven-story buildings were built in 1940/1950 and the existing one-story building was built in 1991. Lofts apartments were designed for floors two through seven and the roof was adapted for recreational purposes. The basement and ground floors were upgraded to accommodate retail/commercial tenants.
