Lessons in drosophila melanogaster abatement

This spring we're learning alot about the drosophila melanogaster - also known as the common fruit fly - and not because we have a strange fascination with winged insects. The fact is we've been tormented by them for over a month. In our effort to rid the office of these relentless little pests we've learned that in spite of their name they don't stick around only for ripe fruit. Indeed, fruit flies have a thing for black coffee and cheese pizza. They are also fearless, lightening quick, and multiply at a dizzying rate.

Yet, with all these tiny distractions we have managed to be very productive and maintain our fast-paced office. One of the major accomplishments was an all-day photo shoot at the Chalon Road Residence. This house located in Mandeville Canyon will be published in a forthcoming edition of Dream Homes of California, published by Dallas-based Panache Partners . We've been working out the details for the retail space on the ground floor of the Douglas Building Lofts at 3rd and Spring Streets, and continue to make progress on the construction of residential projects as well as the adaptive reuse developments in downtown L.A. We're also very pleased that our tree house project was chosen for publication on the architecture and product design site, www.architecture-page.com. This is a relatively new on-line publication featuring a wide range of designers and architects from around the world. It's pretty exciting to have our work shown within an international context.

In just two weeks a number of us will head to Texas for the annual AIA convention in San Antonio. We'll be scanning the showroom, attending lectures, and hanging out with our friend, consultant, and information management guru, Barry Isakson at his Architectronica booth. (Booth 13174) We intend on returning to LA with a fresh perspective on design and bags of new material samples for our expanding library.
