The Metropolitan Building has a significant presence on the corner of Broadway and Fifth.  Built in 1913, the Metropolitan has large Chicago-style windows that offer impressive views of the street scenes below.  Though the building has undergone a number of interior and storefront alterations, the integrity of the original architectural character has remained intact.

RPA was hired by the owner to transform the historic building into live-work loft apartments on floors three through nine with three penthouse units on the tenth floor.  The ground floor will remain a department store with storage in the basement and mezzanine.  The historical integrity of the building will be restored where possible, and the ground floor storefront upgraded to reflect a modern aesthetic.

Project Size: 150,000 s.f.
Number of Units: 84 apartments ranging from 650 to 1500 s.f. + retail and storage
Architectural Team: Rocky Rockefeller, AIA, Brian Pera, Keith Ireland
